"[...] the Nahe has been dubbed the 'tasting room of Germany' for its wines show a remarkable diversity"
Kerry Brady Steward 1998 in 'A Travellers Wine Guide to Germany'
Pictures from our Nahe wine tours: Nested between Mosel and the Rhine valley, the Nahe area intrigues with its quaint beauty and high-end wineries.
Nahe wines are the first cousins to the Mosel wines, though the geographic position of the Nahe River is right in the middle between the Rhine and Mosel river. The wine region of the River Nahe is rather little known and less travelled, even amongst German wine drinkers - unrightfully though, given its charming banks offer some most incredible sights.
From steep slopes to rolling hills, the region boasts a huge variety of soils and minerals for its vineyards. It's said that every wine from the Nahe is a Gem - 'jeder Nahewein ein Edelstein' ... which is also referring to the region's precious stone business.
Riesling is the main varietal, though Sylvaner, Grauburgunder, Weissburgunder and Spätburgunder grow very successfully, too. The best known wineries of Nahe are Schlossgut Diel, Dönnhof, Weingut Emmerich-Schönleber, Crusius and Hermannsberg.
